Badminton Branch
Unfortunately with the passage of time
comes a loss of accurate information concerning the Branch
and its initial formation. However, it is generally
accepted that the Badminton and District Branch was formed
in 1923.
The then Duchess used
her not inconsiderable influence and energy to oversee
construction of the Badminton Memorial hall. The hall
quickly became the centre point for not only memorial and
remembrance services, but for all village community
activities. The original hall still stands, although a
recent fire necessitated the need for significant
rebuilding, and now acts as the Badminton and District
Branch's meeting place. The Branch has always been fortunate
to have the Dukes of Beaufort as our President, and to have
access to the beautiful church adjoining Badminton House.
We meet on the third Tuesday of the
month at 7.30 pm in the Jubilee Room of the Memorial hall.
Please note that a meeting is not always held every month,
so please check the 'Upcoming Events' page for confirmed
dates. All members, and prospective members, are
welcome to attend. Light refreshments are provided.
Membership currently stands at
53, and is increasing, despite the regional trend
for falling membership, and shows the Branch to be
in a healthy condition. We are always looking for new
members to join the Branch and everyone is welcome.
Throughout the year we aim to hold
various social activities. These include our Annual
Dinner, which is always a fantastic gathering, BBQ's, Burn's
Night celebration and curry evenings. The pictures
below show were taken at our most recent Annual Dinner:
Remembrance Days sees us holding a
formal gathering and solemn parade down Badminton High
Street and into Badminton Church. There we hold our
Service of Remembrance, undertaken by our Vicar, the famous
"hunting Vicar", Christopher Mulholland. After the
service we return to the Memorial hall for light
refreshments.
Our Treasurer, Mr Roger Thomas, is
currently Chairman of the ANZAC Parade Committee. This
famous parade, to remember servicemen fro Australia and New
Zealand, is held locally at the village of Leighterton, and
is supported by our Branch.
We are a branch made up of a wide
variety of ages and occupations, and with a recent influx of
young blood, our branch's future is assured. We are
committed to honour these three words:
"Lest we forget..."
